Why a camper?
About a month into my first assignment I was never expecting to extend for as long as I did. My plan was to buy a camper to tow with my crosstrek, and me and my dogs would travel all over the country. And teardrop campers were so cute! But my were they expensive! It was cheaper to buy a larger camper, plus thinking logically, me and two dogs living full time in a teardrop = no room for any of us. So travel trailer it was, but first that crostrek got traded in for a chevy to tow a sufficiently sized trailer. Then, I found a 28-foot travel trailer for sale around the corner from me and everything worked! The best part, he delivered it to my house because backing up that camper would surly put me into a-fib.
I cleaned the camper up, went on two trips in it and fell in love with taking my home with me. I tented since I was a kid and said that being in a camper is not real camping…well guess whos living out of her camper now on an assignment. My first camper was a 28 footer and I found was a bit much for my 1500 so I decided after those two trips if I was going to travel cross country I was going to need something lighter. Facebook marketplace is gold for me and I found a newer, lighter, and 4 foot shorter travel trailer for the next year. I bought it in November took it home and winterized it cause the snow was coming.
For me, being able to bring my home with me is more comforting. And anyone that has two dogs knows how it can be difficult to vacation with them so I could imagine finding housing for months at a time with them would be even more difficult. I always loved camping, Cooper and I tented all the time but getting a second energetic dog would cause more chaos in a tent. The camper doubles as my work home as well as a vacation home. Plus, I can leave the boys in the camper to now go to work which I could not do in a tent.
