Our Mass to colorado Road Trip
I accepted an assignment in Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Bennett drove me out over the span of 3 days with two of our boys. We had an idea of a route but no set plans, we’ll see what happens!
Day 1
I wanted to get a jump on the day since we dropped Mugsy off at boarding the night before. We both set our alarms for 4 am! And anyone that knows us is not surprised that …we woke up at 5:30. Packed the bed of my truck and were on the road by 6:30!
Bennett did not let me get behind the wheel the whole drive to Morrison and day one we drove for 12.5 hours making it to South Bend Indiana. I wanted to go to Indiana Sand Dunes and that would be a stop the next morning. Bennett chose South Bend to stop in as he knew it was the home of University of Notre Dame and figured it would be a nice area. He was right! After lots of antagonizing, I picked a hotel and we both crashed.
day 2
First thing after breakfast we of coarse had to check out the Notre Dame football stadium. School was in session but we still did a drive by. Then we took a pit stop at Indiana Dunes National Park. Another one to check off our bucket list of visiting all the National Parks together! The ranger said it perfectly that this is a drive through park. She pointed us in the direction of the quintessential area of the park. We walked to the beach area and walked the 1.1 mile Dune Succession loop trail. Check out the video here.
Bennett drove us to Omaha Nebraska, the home of the steaks. We had pizza for dinner though. Chase its a bit attached to me so if we leave him alone in the car he jumps all over vs Cooper who just waits knowing I would never leave them.
Bennett loved driving through the midwest I’m surprised he didn’t jump out of the truck and live there. He’d seen more geese in this trip than he did in his whole life and even taught Chase to search for geese and all birds, and even a plane from the truck.
From South Bend to Omaha there was really no other nice areas with a few hotels to stay in. We just drove to the hotel I picked and booked the room at the front desk.
day 3
We woke up pretty early at 6 and grabbed our Starbucks and were on the road. Were were in Morrison by 2pm and got all moved in and walked the dogs in the park right next to the condo. I was so relived to get to my new home in 3 days of driving instead of 4. We also got an extra day together of not traveling and living my new life. Then we went out for the night to REI and dinner just us two after spending the past 3 days non-stop with the dogs. Had to get some bear spray and Bennett got me some Christmas gifts I can use out here!
