The #1 Hike in the White Mountains

FRANCONIA RIDGE LOOP

Heading North on 93 in Franconia Notch across from Lafayette Place Campground is the Old Bridle Path Trailhead, the starting point for the franconia ridge loop.

the hike

Grab your pack, water and head on toward the trailhead! Not to far into the hike, the path splits. I found the best way to hike this trail was clockwise, or in other words, taking a left at the split. This makes a long gradual accent, the rewarding hike across the ridge, followed by various waterfalls on the way down, which Cooper appreciated very much. The climb to the peak of Mount Lafayette is a long one but the breathtaking views while hiking across the ridge are worth it and the ridge is a nice spot to take your lunch break! This 8 mile hike took us about 6hrs to complete but go at your own pace! Me and Cooper were hiking about 45min miles then from start to finish including breaks!

Summiting three 4k mountains in one loop gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. It also sparked my drive to summit all 48 4,000 foot mountains in NH.

As always leave no trace

The best view comes after the hardest climb
